San Jose, CA - Santa Clara County Fair manager Ray Lueckeman is pleased to announce that Steve Stagnaro has been named Director of Marketing for the Santa Clara County Fair. "Stagnaro brings a great deal of experience to the position" noted Lueckeman who added, "He is a part of our serious effort to rebuild the Fair and grounds."
Stagnaro is a founder and partner in Stagnaro Strategic Marketing and has been marketing director for the Santa Cruz County Fair since 1995. For the past two years he has served in the same capacity for Tapestry Arts, San Jose’s largest outdoor festival. Both events have seen strong growth and a renewed vitality due in part to increased exposure as a result of Stagnaro's marketing efforts.
Along with a recent infusion of capital for renovation and modernization was special funding for a much improved entertainment lineup and stronger marketing for the 2007 Fair. "We intend once again for the Fair to be the showcase of the county" promised Lueckeman, "and a chance to show off all the improvements and upgrades we've been working on during the past year."
The 2007 Santa Clara County Fair will run August 1-5 at the Fairgrounds, 344 Tully Road in south San Jose.

The Santa Clara County Fairgrounds proudly reports that its county Board of Supervisors earlier in the week voted to allocate $4.2 million for renovation and modernization work. In addition, the Board also appropriated $285,000 to boost the entertainment and marketing budget for the 2007 Santa Clara County Fair, which will be expanded next August from a three to five day run and will be held from August 1 through 5, 2007.
"This is an extremely important and positive step forward for both our fairgrounds and its fair," reported Arthur Troyer, Executive Director of the SCC Fairgrounds. "The money for infrastructure improvements will be used to air condition all of our major exhibit halls (Exposition, Pavilion, Gateway and Fiesta, which afford a combined 110,000 square feet of space), refurbish our main kitchen and all concession sales outlets, install new electrical and lighting systems, and modernize our restrooms." Interior and exterior painting also will occur to complete the facility renovation effort, which began this past year with the installation of new roofs on all buildings. Other scheduled improvements include more overflow parking and landscaped areas on the grounds.
"We're also excited to announce plans for creating a 5,000 seat outdoor arena for musical entertainment and rodeos," said Troyer. "This arena will be ready for the 2007 fair, when it will be put to good use when we host an upgraded musical entertainment lineup for fairgoers." Troyer also indicated that fireworks will return as an attraction for the opening and closing days of the 2007 fair.
A major renovation plan for the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds was initially adopted in 1998, although that plan lost momentum when the City of San Jose sued the County to halt efforts to partner with the House of Blues on a theater. While the city ultimately lost the lawsuit, escalating construction costs subsequently dissuaded the County from going forward with the theater.
"We are now back on track," reports Troyer. "The loss of the theater hurt, but the renovation work that is now approved for our exhibit halls and supporting infrastructure is in many ways more important to the long-term vitality of our fairgrounds." The executive director of the SCCFMC, which is a non-profit corporation that manages the fairgrounds for the county, also indicated that the Board of Supervisors promised to revisit master land use planning issues for the complex shortly after the first of the year. "We're proud of our fairgrounds and its fair," said Troyer. "And we haven't given up on the idea of turning the complex into an upscale destination point for family recreation and entertainment activities."
